As the Christmas fog clears and we regret those second helpings to the cheese board and daily gin indulgences we turn our thoughts to NY resolutions and for many Veganuary and dry January – but is it not enough we have to return to work and battle the school run without taking away our meat and alcohol?? Ho hum the fun is over but there is something a little exciting about fruit and veggies when you have eaten your weight in Celebrations for the last fortnight. Our household is onboard the vegan/vegetarian train for January and 6 days in, I’m embracing colours beyond beige #eattherainbow 😊
However, this year my new 2020 journal has a striking new priority – MY OWN BUSINESS. Yes, I am now a new business owner.
As of November 2019, I left the safety of the corporate world and regular monthly income (!) to start my own business as an events and marketing specialist. Working in media for the last 20 years and for the last 10 years as The Event and Marketing Manager at Cheshire Life magazine/ Archant Ltd was a familiar fit to burst calendar of deadlines and targets; from print deadlines, sponsorship sales targets, Event P and L’s, editorial schedules, event planning schedules, and numerous media partnerships and of course client and colleague meetings. Suddenly I am flying solo and the usual print deadline rhythm is no longer the anchor of my month.
I have certainly become slightly institutionalised from a couple of decades in publishing – so what to do? I will of course turn to the comfort blanket of targets and set my own goals and work to them with the same conviction as the sales targets set by my Publisher and copy deadlines set by my Editor. I will carve out a new weekly and monthly rhythm for KW Events and Marketing and focus on achieving results for my new clients and my new brand. It’s time to practice what I preach and set my own mission statement and work towards goals which of course must be Smart, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time Bound. My ideas journal is taking good shape and with much excitement and anticipation I take a veggie fuelled leap into the new year.
Wish me luck.
